A vibrant non-governmental non-profit (NGO) sector has a significant economic and political value to a country. Effective regulation can nurture this by enabling the sector to function in the best possible way.
As countries in all regions of the world are reviewing - or have recently reviewed – their NGO legislation and regulation, there is a lot to gain from the international exchange of ideas and experience of effective systems. This website aims to facilitate the process, acting as a gateway to information on interesting developments and initiatives around the world. It also supports a country in meeting with its international obligations.
The website is managed by the International Programme of the Charity Commission for England and Wales, which is supporting good regulatory practices in different regions of the world. It was produced in consultation with an international referral group, including: the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering, the Kenyan NGO Co-ordination Board, the South African Non Profit Consortium, the Philippines Council for NGO Certification and the United Nations Programme on Governance in the Arab Region.
The ongoing development of the website will be steered by feedback from all users. Please do get in touch if you have suggestions for how the website could be improved.
