The Building Blocks of Effective Regulation

Legal Framework Regulation Government/Sector Dialogue Sector Capacity

Effective regulation is not limited to regulatory action taken by the state. We believe there are four essential components of effective regulation each of which are equally important in enabling  NGOs to carry out their vital work effectively. These are: the Legal Framework, Regulation, Government/Sector Dialogue, and Sector Capacity. We engage in each of these areas as we work with civil society and government bodies across the world to contribute to healthy, independent and accountable NGO sectors.

Please click on the links below for further explanation of each block:

  • The Legal Framework - we work towards an enabling legal environment, which supports effective regulation and protects the opertating space of NGOs.
  • Regulation - we support the development of effective, proportionate NGO regulation.
  • Government/Sector Dialogue - we support the environment and mechanisms conducive to the development of a co-operative and mutually respectful relationship between government and NGOs.
  • Sector Capacity - we ensure that the sector has the skills and capacity necessary to create and maintain a healthy, accountable and independent NGO sector.
